RV rule changes are being made worldwide. California’s upcoming state ban will impact RVS and camping trails in the US.
In addition, we’re seeing panic among the RV community across the US for spots like Cracker Barrel. The location is setting stricter rules on overnight stays. A Cracker Barrel rep stated that the policies have not changed and that the ruling is still based on a store-by-store basis. The size of the parking layout and local ordinances and laws are some factors regarding overnight Cracker Barrel stays.
We have other new camper rules to announce. These strict terms are being implemented in Europe and are generating a lot of backlash. We’ll take a closer look at the new bans and what they mean for campers visiting Greece.

Greece Added Stricter RV Rules For Overnight And Residential Stays
Greece is tightening its RV rules, and the reactions haven’t been positive thus far. According to Greek Travel Pages, under Law 5170/2025, stricter regulations exist for where RVs and campers can be parked or hosted.
The legislation has announced overnight bans on:
- Beaches
- Forests
- Archaeological sites
- Public or municipal parking lots
The new ruling extends to private landowners, who cannot host more than one motorhome at a time, unless a formal business license is obtained for the additional camper.
Violations for those who break the law could result in 300 Euros per vehicle or person, while repeat offenders may even face jail time or fines of up to 3,000 Euros.
The Tourism Ministry addressed the controversial ruling and is welcoming RVers to licensed campsites across Greece that meet health and safety standards.
The ministry said in a statement, “We are simply enforcing what is already common practice. We are protecting public interest and upholding legality.”
Preserving hygiene, safety and protecting Greece’s cultural heritage remain the priorities for Greece’s Tourism Ministry.
An Organization In Greece Is Pushing Back On The New Laws
As expected, there is a lot of pushback regarding the rule change.
The Hellenic Motorhome Club said the rules “unfairly penalize a lifestyle and form of travel embraced by thousands across Europe.”
According to GTP, the organization is actively challenging the law behind the scenes. The organization’s concerns are understandable, with more than 2,500 domestic motorhomes in Greece. The club added that the particular legislation should have been consulted with citizens and visitors prior. The ministry states that these rules are always in play and are just being reinforced.

How California’s Upcoming State Ban Will Impact RVs And Camping Trips
The state’s new generator ban is changing the way RVers and campers power their adventures—here’s what to expect and how to prepare.
Online, via platforms like YouTube and Reddit, there are many growing concerns, especially for those in Greece. Some RVers are feeling completely abandoned at the moment, with limited options.
Users Online React To The Rule Change:
“These laws and similar have been rolled out for many years and its nothing to do with mess being left behind, infact villainising travellers is how these laws get passed without the public having an uproar because narrow minded people don’t see the bigger picture. It was the same in the UK with the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 , the public lapped it up because they didn’t want ravers or travellers pitching up but in reality that Act was a serious impingment on rights of everyone and from there councils began rolling out high barriers and blocking access to public byways and rights of way. Everyone should have the right to travel and park , I’m always astounded how readily people accept their rights being removed.”
“This is reflective of a wider issue; governments around the world are becoming more aggressive about removing people’s individual freedom. We should all be very concerned about the direction the world is heading. A life without liberty is not worth living.”
“I am a greek citizen and this new law was caught us all by surprise. Some, perhaps many of my fellow citizens seems to agree with this ban. Personally I think is over the top and our government did a really bad thing restricting with this absolute way a freedom many of us Greeks took advantage at some point of our lives in the past.”
“Here in Brazil you can stop & sleep anywhere, apart from private land & the main rule is take your trash with you, no problem at all , wild land belongs to the people, & not owned by corporations & government.”
