Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, has asked the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, to play an active role in granting the country candidate status. After meeting with him, Kurti said that Kosovo is fully committed to becoming a member state of the European Union.

He also called for the complete and immediate lifting of EU restrictive measures against Kosovo.

“Emphasizing the fact that almost two and a half years have passed since the Republic of Kosovo’s application for membership in the European Union, the Prime Minister requested from President Costa an active role in sending the questionnaire and granting candidate country status,” the OPM statement said.

Kurti said that threats to the region come from Serbia, while demanding that Milan Radoićić be handed over to Kosovo’s justice institutions.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister also raised concerns about the violation of the rights of Albanians in Presheva, Medvedja and Bujanovac.

“Albanians in the Presevo Valley are underrepresented in public institutions, discriminated against in employment, and their rights are consistently ignored,” he said.
