The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, arrived in Pristina on Wednesday afternoon and was received in a meeting by the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani.

Following their meeting, Costa and Osmani are expected to hold a joint press conference.

Later, Costa will also meet with the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.

Costa is visiting Kosovo at a time when Kosovar lawmakers have failed to constitute the new Parliament after the February elections, despite 15 attempts. Albin Kurti’s government remains in office until a new government is formed following the official constitution of Parliament.

This visit also comes at a time when Kosovo’s leaders are intensifying calls on the European Union to lift the punitive measures imposed after tensions in the country’s north. These measures remain in place due to the EU’s assessment that Kosovo has not taken sufficient steps to de-escalate the situation in the Serb-majority municipalities.

On Wednesday morning, Costa is expected to be in Montenegro. A day earlier, he visited Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During a press conference with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Costa emphasized that dialogue with Kosovo is key to Serbia’s EU membership, adding that taking a clear stance on condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine is equally important.
