It’s possible that Princess Märtha Louise is looking to sell her countryside idyll for a fresh start with her new husband. Theirs is an unconventional love story, but the Princess and Verrett appear to be more in love than ever after their 2024 nuptials, which saw an esteemed collection of guests gather in Geiranger, including the King and Queen, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit. The bride, who wore an elegant sleeveless dress by Norwegian designer Tina Steffenakk Hermansen, told press photographers to move out of the way to ensure the well-wishers had a good view: ‘They’re more important than you right now,’ she said with a wave of her hand.
Many royal watchers had wondered which tiara Märtha Louise might pick for her big day, and the Princess chose her signature piece: the diamond and pearl tiara gifted to her by her grandfather, King Olav, on her eighteenth birthday in 1989. Crafted with a wheat-sheaf-like design, Märtha Louise has worn the same tiara for several milestone occasions, such as the joint celebrations for her parents’ 60th, 70th, and 80th birthdays, as well as the wedding ceremonies of countless fellow royals. Decorating the Princess’ cascading train was the couple’s unofficial monogram. The symbol is a combination of their initials, styled in the manner of Egyptian hieroglyphs. On Instagram, Princess Märtha Louise further explained its meaning, with the ‘M’, for Martha, apparently symbolising ‘the wise owl, a guardian of souls navigating between worlds’. She continued: ‘The owl represents the protector, guiding humans through the passage from the earthly existence to the spirit world.’
After tying the knot, Märtha Louise and her new husband toured the village, waving to fans and delighting the gathered public with a romantic kiss. ‘Our love has triumphed against all odds and will last forever,’ the Princess told HELLO! magazine, with Verrett adding: ‘Love transcends all things because love is the original energy that we all are on this planet. It triumphs everything.’
Currently, the couple live in a penthouse in Oslo that belongs to Queen Sonja’s family, and are reportedly hoping to move into their new home in Bærum, purchased in August 2023. Hopefully, this next stage in their life will allow their relationship to blossom even further.
