On May 20, 2025, Kyiv welcomed Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon, marking the first royal visit from Norway to Ukraine since the full-scale war initiated by Russia began. This information was confirmed by Norwegian media.
At Kyiv’s train station, the prince was greeted by Norway’s ambassador, Helen Sand Andresen, and a Ukrainian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko.
The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the visit of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon is a testament to Norway’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people and recognition of their resilience. Norway will continue to provide substantial political, military, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
Prince Haakon plans to hold meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government and Norwegian partners, as well as visit projects funded under the Nansen Program.
The crown prince’s first stop in Ukraine was the “Angels of Victory” memorial in Moshchun, where he paid tribute to the fallen.
Accompanying the prince to Kyiv was Norway’s Minister of Energy, Terje Aasland, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the countries in the energy sector.
This year, Norway significantly increased its funding to support Ukraine under the Nansen Program, raising it from 50 to 85 billion Norwegian kroner, demonstrating the country’s growing commitment to aiding Ukraine during this challenging time.
