Verona Area High School (VAHS) teacher Rachel Hunjadi was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Society of Science Teachers (WSST) for her outstanding work with science education in Wisconsin.

According to a Verona Area School District (VASD) news release, WSST recognizes science teachers annually for their achievements. The Frank Zuerner New Teacher Scholarship is presented to recognize teachers with great potential in the field of science.

This scholarship is given annually to individuals who are in their first five years of teaching and have demonstrated enthusiasm and passion for science teaching as well as significant potential for future leadership in science education.

Hunjadi has taught Instructed Chemistry, AP Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Physical Science and General Physics in the VASD for the past four years.

“I am aware of no other new teacher that, in my tenure, exemplifies the mission of WSST to advance science education to such a degree so early in their career,” Dustin Moench, VAHS Science Department Chair, wrote in support of Hunjadi. “Her considerable potential for teaching and leadership, dedication and enthusiasm to the job, and outstanding contributions to science education for our district deserve nothing less than the thanks and honor that the storied Frank Zuerner New Teacher Scholarship confers.”
