MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Health care professionals celebrate EMS Appreciation Week every year during the third week of May, which is this week.
It’s a week dedicated to honoring and thanking EMS workers for the vital role they play in our communities. This year’s theme is “We Care. For Everyone.” to remind people that EMS professionals are there for people everywhere, regardless of where, when, or why.
NMU’s Center for Rural Health Director Elise Bur says the week is a good reminder that they’re saving lives every day, even if you don’t notice them.
“A lot of people don’t think about EMS until they need it,” said Bur. “So, this is a time to really recognize how important EMS personnel really are. It’s important to recognize and appreciate them before you actually need them.”
Bur encourages people to find ways to support EMS agencies even outside of this week, which could be as simple as thanking an EMS worker or as involved as volunteering as a first responder.
