The New Zealand Black Ferns have made a stunning entrance to the 2025 season for women’s rugby and now have their sights set on extending their historic win streak over the USA Women’s Eagles.
The Black Ferns defeated Australia in the season opener and faced a draw against Canada, the No. 2 ranked team in the world. New Zealand entered the final round tied with Canada at the top of the Pacific Four Series and racking up a high scoring game over a young USA team could propel the Black Ferns to the Pacific Four Series trophy.
Canada, who beat Australia earlier in the round, broke the 8-8 tie in the stands and now leads bye five points in the table.
The Women’s Eagles oppositely saw defeat against Australia and Canada in their first two games and sit at No. 9 the World Rugby rankings, despite having Rugby 7s Olympian Ilona Maher on their squad. A win from the USA would not only be its first of the season, but the first time that the Women’s Eagles will have beat the Black Ferns in more than three decades.
Will New Zealand continue its history of domination over the USA? Or will the Women’s Eagles find a way to fend off the No. 3 ranked Black Ferns?
