With a career spanning over seven decades, singer-songwriter Neil Sedaka is responsible for some of the most beloved tunes of the 1960s and ’70s, from “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do” to “Calendar Girl” and so many more. At 86 years old, one might expect the chart-topping musician to start slowing down — but as a recent video proved, he sounds just as amazing as ever!

Sedaka showed off both his musical prowess and his social media savvy this month when he jumped on the current “God forbid” TikTok trend with a video of himself playing the piano and singing his 1974 hit, “Laughter in the Rain.” His voice was clear and strong as he belted out the tune, with a text overlay asking the question: “Why do you sing your songs from 50 years ago?”

“God forbid an artist enjoys his work,” quipped the video’s caption.

In the comments, fans were quick to answer the question of why Sedaka continues to sing his classic hits.

“Why?!! Because Mr. Sedaka is a NATIONAL TREASURE and he knows how much he is loved,” one person gushed.

“Neil, please never stop singing your songs,” somebody pleaded, as another chimed in to say, “You still sound amazing Neil!”

“Good music never gets old!!” declared yet another fan.

In another sweet clip shared on TikTok in December 2024, Sedaka proudly introduced his 19-year-old grandson, Mike, with a video of the two of them singing a duet of his song “I Must Be Dreaming.”

“Michael has a big future, that’s what I predict,” Sedaka said at the end of the video. “And I should know.”
