SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – Sunday is National Cancer Survivors Day, and Avera Health is honoring those people and their families in Sioux Falls.
Around 500 people attended the health system’s event at the Prairie Center on Avera’s main campus, which included a picnic and guest speakers.
For Dan and Ellie Berg, both cancer survivors from Dell Rapids, the event showed that cancer patients need support, and that they’re not alone.
“Everybody should have somebody to help you through the tough days, because there are a lot of them,” Ellie Berg said.
“And even events like this are very supportive for everybody, too. It lets everybody know that you’re not there alone,” Dan Berg said.
Money raised from the Avera Race Against Cancer helped fund the event.
