The Italian Embassy in Skopje celebrated the 79th Italian Republic Day with a solemn ceremony that took place yesterday on the evocative terrace of the National Theatre in Skopje. The event aimed to honour the founding values of the Italian Republic whose principles are enshrined in the Constitution. Particularly significant was the presence of the highest local authorities, including the President of the Republic Siljanovska-Davkova, the President of the Government Hristijan Mickoski, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska, the Minister of Education and Research Vesna Janevska, the Minister of Sport Borko Ristovski, the President of the Parliamentary Group for Cooperation with the Italian Chamber of Deputies Elmi Aziri, as well as numerous representatives of institutions, civil and religious, members of the economic, academic and cultural world and the Italian and international community in North Macedonia.

   
In his address to the guests, Italian Ambassador Paolo Palminteri emphasised the strong historical ties that unite the two countries: “Italy and North Macedonia are two friendly states and sincere allies. It is a friendship that involves the respective peoples, parliaments, governments and different institutions,’ Palminteri said.

   
The Ambassador also quoted the words of the President of the Italian Republic Mattarella pronounced during his recent meeting with the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Siljanovska-Davkova, expressing Italy’s full support for the country’s not easy path to European accession.

   
The evening was enlivened by the splendid concert of the Army Orchestra of the Republic of North Macedonia, which performed some of the most iconic pieces of Italian music.
