Through Week 2 (games played May 26-June 1), the Dream surged to a 5-2 record, fuelled by standout performances from two-time All-Star Allisha Gray.

Gray averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game during that stretch.

Yet, despite these gaudy numbers, Gray managed to fly under the radar leaguewide until Tuesday, when the WNBA officially announced its Week 2 Players of the Week.

In the Eastern Conference, Gray earned a Player of the Week nod, while Western honors went to A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.

Fans online were quick to react to the announcement.

“Amazing 🙌🏽,” one tweeted.

“The Bestie Takeover,” another tweeted.

“dawn’s babies🤌🏾,” one tweeted.

“Allisha is balling, A’ja doing A’ja things. I know Dawn is proud,” another tweeted.

Gray and Wilson were teammates at South Carolina, helping lead the Gamecocks to an NCAA Championship in 2017 under Hall of Fame head coach Dawn Staley.

Drafted fourth overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2017 WNBA Draft, Gray immediately made an impact, capturing Rookie of the Year honors.

In 2025, Gray is posting career highs in scoring (21.4 ppg) and assists (4.6 apg) in what’s been her most efficient season yet, shooting 49.5% from the field and 43.5% from deep.

Brittney Griner, meanwhile, was brought in to help elevate Atlanta’s title aspirations with her championship pedigree (won a title with Phoenix in 2014), yet has been hampered by some early-season inefficiencies and a minor knee injury.

In her first five games, she averaged 12.2 points (career-low), 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game, but she’s working back toward full strength.

Looking ahead, with Gray riding this wave of confidence and Griner inching back to form, expectations for Atlanta are sky-high.
