Acting Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, has announced that Kosovo is working to ensure that the Javelin anti-tank systems, which were ordered by the United States of America, arrive earlier than planned in the contract.
“We have discussed the possibility that the US will enable us to have these devices by the end of 2025, despite the fact that the contract planned to have them after 2025, that is, in 2026 and beyond,” declared Makedonci.
He said that the contract for the purchase of these systems was signed last year and includes several phases of implementation.
“The contract has several phases, it does not mean that upon signing the contract you will have the equipment. There are the phases when payments are made, when the equipment is scheduled to arrive in the country, the export permit that was approved last year, as well as the purchase itself that was approved,” he explained.
According to the minister, the goal is to provide at least some of this equipment earlier, so that members of the Kosovo Security Force have sufficient time to train and become familiar with it.
“I believe that we will have a quantity, maybe not the entire quantity, but enough to enable our members to become familiar with these systems,” Maqedonci added to RTVDukagjini.
