Former Five-Star Oregon Commit Makes Big Recruiting Decision originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Despite his recent decommitment, Richard Wesley is set to return to Eugene.

The five-star edge rusher out of Sierra Canyon (Calif.) is taking his official visit to Oregon this weekend, according to On3’s Steve Wiltfong.

Though Wesley backed off his verbal pledge to the Ducks earlier this spring, Oregon remains the favorite to ultimately land him, with Texas, Texas A&M, and Ohio State still in the hunt per Wiltfong.

Wesley is rated as the No. 4 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 25 overall prospect in the 2026 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He originally committed to Oregon on May 10 but later revealed that decision came without full consultation from his family.

Ultimately, the star pass rusher reopened his recruitment after announcing his commitment by jumping into a pool with Ducks head coach Dan Lanning.

Still, his return visit is a promising sign for Lanning’s staff, who are still pushing for one of the nation’s top-ranked recruiting classes. Oregon currently holds the No. 9 class in the country, led by five-star tight end Kendre Harrison and four-star running back Tradarian Ball.

Wesley isn’t the only blue-chip prospect on campus this weekend. He’s joined by five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson and five-star cornerback Brandon Arrington — both ranked No. 1 at their positions.

If Oregon can convince Wesley to recommit, it would mark a major win in an already high-stakes recruiting cycle.

The Ducks will be in action when they host Montana State on Saturday, August 30. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Autzen Stadium.
