The House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Subcommittee on Europe, chaired by Congressman Keith Self (TX-03), held a hearing entitled “Assessing the Challenges Facing NATO,” focusing on emerging threats to the Alliance and regional stability in the Western Balkans.

Self opened the hearing with a strong emphasis on the importance of Kosovo’s security, democratic progress, and the urgency of countering Russian and Chinese influence in the region.

He also highlighted growing concerns over destabilizing activities emanating from Serbia and Republika Srpska, both of which have attracted increased attention from US and NATO officials.

During his testimony, retired Admiral Mark Montgomery gave an assessment of Serbia and Republika Srpska as destabilizing entities.

“Serbia and Republika Srpska are both evil actors who endanger the stability of the Balkans,” he declared.
