Seattle Mariners Stay Strong In MLB Power Rankings originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
It’s been a tough stretch recently for the Seattle Mariners, who have dropped out of first place in the American League West. Their winning ways have been dampened a little bit, yet Seattle still is among the top MLB teams.

In new MLB Power Rankings released by The Athletic, the Mariners moved up one notch to No. 9 from last week’s spot. This team’s early-season onslaught has been led by hard-hitting catcher Cal Raleigh.
The popular “Big Dumper” leads the Major Leagues with 23 home runs, tied with Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani for the top spot. Raleigh has also been performing pretty well in the field, too. Having this type of strong effort has been a major underlying story to Seattle’s fast start.
Mariners shortstop J.P. Crawford is having a rebound season
Yet Mariners fans have probably enjoyed watching shortstop J.P. Crawford get back into a solid groove. Crawford, who is getting some attention as a possible All-Star Game pick, is hitting at a .279 clip right now. He’s also got five home runs and 22 RBI entering play on Thursday.

Crawford has spent seven of his nine MLB seasons with the Mariners. He’s been one of the mainstays in an organization still looking to get past the Houston Astros in postseason play.
Getting Crawford back into a good grove is good news for Seattle. If he and Julio Rodriguez can find a way to keep the Mariners going strong as the summer months grow near, then Seattle is set up pretty well.
The Mariners must have Raleigh, Crawford and Rodriguez stay healthy if they are going to ascend again into the top spot in the AL West. Look for Seattle to possibly make a move at the trade deadline to shore up any weak spots.
