Almost 3000 properties across Denmark and Albany were without power on Tuesday afternoon after an umbrella snagged on power lines and caused a mass outage.
Western Power reported the network damage at about 3.15pm, affecting 2948 customers in the suburbs of Shadforth, Ocean Beach, Nullaki, Cuthbert, Scotsdale, Denmark, Hay, Elleker, Torbay, Robinson, Youngs Siding, Bornholm, Kronkup, Marbelup and Lowlands.
A Western Power spokeswoman attributed the unplanned outage to an umbrella and noted the “significant” amount of lightning in the area may affect restoration times.
“Crews have been deployed and are working swiftly and safely as possible to complete repairs and restore power,” she said.
“We are communicating with customers directly impacted via SMS with information and updates including estimated restoration times.
“We thank the community for their understanding as we work to resolve the fault.”
Power was restored to all customers by 4.30pm.
Anyone who sees a fallen power line is asked to stay at least eight metres away and contact Western Power on 13 13 51 so crews can attend the hazard.
