Kosovo’s chief negotiator, Besnik Bislimi, met with Serbia’s Petar Petković on Tuesday in Brussels. The meeting took place as part of the EU-mediated dialogue.
Earlier that day, Serbia confirmed the meeting. However, Kosovo’s delegation did not respond to media questions.
Petković posted on Instagram, noting a “working atmosphere” ahead of direct talks.
This meeting followed separate talks on June 2 between Bislimi, Petković, and EU official Sorensen. That earlier trilateral meeting failed. According to Bislimi, Serbia’s team faced travel delays.
Bislimi said he and Sorensen discussed the EU’s role in future negotiation stages. They also talked about support for Albanians in the Presheva Valley, especially small farmers.
However, Petković rejected this topic. He told the EU that Presheva and Bujanoc are internal Serbian issues. He said they are not open for discussion in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.
Meanwhile, EU chief diplomat Kaja Kallas visited both capitals last month. She urged both sides to improve relations for a European future.
Kosovo and Serbia have held EU-led talks since 2011. They have signed many agreements, but implementation remains weak.
Kosovo is currently in political deadlock. On June 9, its Parliament failed to convene for the 29th time. The ruling party, Vetëvendosje, and the opposition disagree on electing a new speaker. Their nominee, Albulena Haxhiu, is seen as divisive.
Until Parliament is formed, no new government can take office.
QUINT countries and the EU urged acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti to form institutions quickly. They stressed the need to ensure stability and citizen welfare.
