Today, the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo gather again in the next attempt to constitute the 9th legislature.

While in several consecutive sessions, Vetëvendosje’s candidate for speaker of parliament, Albulena Haxhiu, failed to obtain the necessary 61 votes, it was Vetëvendosje that proposed a secret ballot, which the opposition did not agree with.

Meanwhile, at the end of each session, representatives of political parties are accusing each other of institutional deadlock.

The session for the constitution of the Assembly began on April 15 and has been continuing without any results for the 30th time now.

Today’s session is scheduled for 11:00, or 48 hours after the previous one.

This session has remained on the third item on the agenda, the election of the Speaker of the Assembly. The session is a continuation of the continuous interruption due to the inability to establish the Secret Ballot Committee for the election of the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo.

The Vetëvendosje Movement, which has the right to nominate a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly, has nominated Albulena Haxhiu for the post. However, she has not managed to secure the necessary number of votes in either of the two rounds of voting.

The country’s President, Vjosa Osmani, met with party leaders on May 15, in an attempt to find a solution, but this meeting did not result in any progress in overcoming the institutional blockade.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Court has not yet issued an opinion regarding AAK’s request to assess the constitutionality of the proposal for the formation of the Secret Ballot Committee for the Election of the Speaker of the Parliament of Kosovo.

Parliamentary elections in Kosovo were held on February 9.
