Richard Grenell, President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, has publicly dismissed as “fake news” a recent exclusive report by Kathimerini on a US initiative to broker talks between Greece and Turkey.

“This story from @lenaargiri is pure fake news. Which is why she never reached out to me before she printed it. Can’t let the truth get in the way of lots of clicks. Right, Lena?” Grenell wrote on X while sharing the article, titled “US plans push for Greece-Turkey talks.”

The story, authored by Kathimerini’s Washington correspondent Lena Argiri, cited unnamed sources suggesting a forthcoming US push to de-escalate tensions between the two NATO allies.

In response to Grenell’s post, Kathimerini said it stands by its reporting and the sources consulted for the piece.
