21st June 2025 – (Tokyo) Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya has urged for immediate de-escalation in the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, emphasising the critical need to restore calm in the region.
During a telephone discussion on Friday with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, Iwaya voiced Japan’s deep concern over the escalating retaliatory attacks between the two nations, which have resulted in significant destruction. He underscored that actions likely to intensify the crisis further must be avoided.
Iwaya also sought assurances from the Israeli government regarding the safety of Japanese nationals residing in the region.
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Friday that 87 Japanese nationals and their family members have safely evacuated to neighbouring countries from Israel and Iran via land routes.
