  1. >”The Coalition supports the military action taken by the United States to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, specifically the strikes taken today against the facilities at Isfahan, Natanz and, critically, Fordow,” acting Shadow Foreign Affairs Minister Andrew Hastie told reporters in Western Australia.

I’m not at all surprised that the Coalition is supporting this, but it’s absolutely disgusting to see nonetheless. Albo hasn’t responded yet; we can only hope he sticks to his guns and doesn’t follow the US into this bullshit war.

  2. If America says “jump” the lnp say “how high?”. Labor on the other hand, will put out a short statement stressing the need for feet to be on the ground, whilst respecting America’s right to jump.

  3. OnCnditonOfAnonymity on

If Albo comes out in support, the Coalition will suddenly be heavily opposed.

Nah, they wouldn’t because they are US bootlickers.

  4. Trump says do not retaliate against America or else, so Iran is striking Israel hard instead.

doesn’t appear Israel actually has control of Iranian airspace? If they do they’d send in their drones to suppress the missile launches.

This is not looking good for Israel.

  5. Scott Morrison and Tony Abbott, along with a host of conservative voices, have supported the attack on Twitter.

Interestingly, a handful of rabid trump supporters over there, including everyone’s favourite senator Ralph Babet, have condemned the attacks and very very quickly criticised the idea of Australia’s involvement at all. This has caused a few spots of hilarious conservative infighting.

I don’t think anyone gives a fuck what the coalition think on this, or any other matter.

  7. I see we have replaced the “rules based international order” with the law of the jungle where might makes it right.

  8. The views of the coalition are absolutely irrelevant, and it is utterly improper for them to be saying anything on this matter – it’s a matter of international relations, defence, and national security. Only the Government should be speaking.

The coalition should be reflecting on its complete rejection by the electorate, not trying to exert influence on matters beyond their authority.

And the media should be ignoring them.

Iran has been enriching uranium past 60 percent purity which is not for power plants or medicine, it’s a hair away from weapons grade. The International Atomic Energy Agency has warned about this for years while Iran keeps stonewalling inspections and playing games with the West. They are not building peaceful energy. They are building leverage or worse

If they get a bomb the Middle East will spiral. Saudi Arabia has already said they will match it. Egypt and Turkey will follow. You end up with a region full of hostile, corrupt or unstable regimes all sitting on nuclear weapons. Israel will not wait for that nightmare. Their entire military doctrine is built around acting first when they feel threatened. So the second Iran crosses the line the missiles fly and we are looking at full blown war.

How long has Iran been weeks away from developing nuclear missiles now.. 30 years almost?

  11. JohnMonash87 on

Just another reason to despise the Coalition. As much as no-one wants Iran to have nuclear weapons, no-one should be supporting US involvement in this conflict. Here’s hoping we stick to our guns here and not cave in to the US like we always have in the past.

The day I start giving a fuck what Hastie thinks about anything is the day purple pigs start flying outside my bedroom window. He’s a moron as well as a horrible human being. More to the point, he’s irrelevant.

So many times in the last few weeks I have thought “thank fuck we don’t have a Liberal government”.

  14. TheTemplar333 on

You mean the coalition that got absolutely clowned on in the last election, broke up, then realised they’d be fucked on their own and got back together?

  15. Don’t know what everyone here wants.

Iran had tons of uranium enriched >60% – a frankly ridiculous level of enrichment, much more than required for power. This was confirmed by the IAEA, not the Mossad or CIA. There’s only one use for that.

Khameini has time and again called for a genocide against Israel, which he’d probably use his bombs for. I’m no more of a fan of Netanyahu and his Likud vermin than you all are, but just think about the millions of innocents who would perish in such an attack.

A surgical strike on nuclear facilities that contribute to the design of these weapons is the right thing to do. De-escalation from here is the right option, and the right thing to call for. If Israel want to keep blowing up power stations in Iran then they can wear the return fire, but that’s upon them

Look, I don’t care if you lean left, right, or hang upside down – starting a war with Iran in 2025 is hands-down one of the absolute dumbest moves Trump has made. The guy has zero understanding of global diplomacy, treats war like it’s a reality TV plot twist, and now he’s dragged the world into yet another unnecessary conflict.

Iran isn’t some pushover rogue state – you don’t just lob missiles and expect them to roll over. This isn’t a Call of Duty game. There are real people, innocent civilians, who are going to die because one egomaniac in a red tie wanted to flex. And for what? A bump in approval ratings? Some weird legacy fantasy?

And now what? Australia’s getting dragged into the convo again like we’re the loyal little brother? Nah. Hard pass.

We followed the US into Iraq, into Afghanistan – we sent troops, spent billions, lost lives. And what did we get? Endless grief and a bunch of veterans we still don’t support properly…and they’re eating up welfare too smh! I’m tired of us blindly tagging along with America’s messes just because of some alliance signed 70 years ago. It’s not 1955 anymore and we need to think for ourselves. Albabese and Ms Wong better get their shit in order!

Staying out of this war isn’t cowardice – it’s common sense. Trump started it, let him clean it up. If the US wants to play global hall monitor with a loaded gun, fine. But Australia doesn’t owe them a damn thing this time. Keep Aussies out of it!

And before anyone jumps in with “but the alliance” or “but China’s watching” – yeah, cool, let’s not start World War III over some old man’s tantrum. We can support diplomacy, humanitarian aid, and stability without jumping into a war that’s got nothing to do with us.

Anyway. Rant over. Flame me if you want.

Andrew hastie: “I’d like to tell our American allies that if they need help in Iran, I’m happy to give them a hand”

A five thousand year old cuneiform clay tablet from the ancient Assyrian city of Uruk was recently decoded carrying the following message to a diplomat:

“Canaan says Persia is only six weeks away from building nuclear weapons.”

  19. Witty-Software-101 on

How a out sanctions on the aggressor?  Seems like Australia didn’t have a problem when it came to supporting America’s proxy in Europe.

  20. This is just another load of BS from Israel and the US just like Iraq. I don’t think we would be well advised to follow the lead of two of the most deranged “leaders” in the world. One of whom apparently does not believe his own intelligence people. Sounds like deja vu all over again.

  21. TheBrickWithEyes on

Does the “coalition” have some kind of automatic trigger where it just automatic does the opposite, no matter what the issue is?

It’s just laughable at this point. Rudderless, no policies, no leadership, no vision, and I am guessing, soon no leader.

  22. This is a moment where the LNP should keep thoughts to themselves.

Israel and the US have kicked off this war, if people don’t think Iran are going to take retaliation to their home turf would have rocks in their heads. We shouldn’t be cheering on any part of this.

  23. Suitable-Orange-3702 on

“The coalition” that’s 2-3 people right? Haven’t they just reversed course on everything & are now just waiting for a rich donor to tell them what to think?

  24. Money_Armadillo4138 on

I’m surprised anyone could make out what Hastie was saying through the garbled sound of trumps balls in his mouth.

  25. Aren’t we glad that the swing voters didn’t vote for Dutton in the last election otherwise THIS would be our defense minister.

  26. AccomplishedAnchovy on

Coalition decided they weren’t unpopular enough, had to drop back down a few points

  27. Surv1v3dTh3F1r3Dr1ll on

The coalition is just playing politics with the optics. But we really need Albanese (or another western world leader) to do a fireside chat right now instead of tweeting something or spinning it imo.
