The League to Save Lake Tahoe expressed condolences to the families affected by a tragic boating incident over the past weekend, which occurred during unprecedented extreme weather conditions.

“We send our deepest condolences to the families of those who were lost in this past weekend’s tragic boating incident,” said the League.

The League thanked the U.S. Coast Guard and first responders for their immediate action to protect people and the lake. A coordinated cleanup effort is ongoing as debris continues to wash up from the storm.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency has activated a spill response team to safeguard Tahoe’s environment from hazardous materials that may have escaped from damaged boats.

“If you see spills or serious damage, please report them to the US EPA Region 9 at (800) 300-2193,” said the League.

The League also encouraged the public to prepare for time on or near the water by downloading the free Tahoe Boating App, which provides real-time weather information, the location of boater resources, and navigation tools. More information is available at keeptahoeblue.org/boating.
