Gov. Kathy Hochul’s bold move to greenlight a new nuclear power plant has sparked outrage from New York’s environmental advocates, who argue it undermines true climate progress.

Food & Water Watch, a major anti-fracking group, condemned the plan as a costly and dangerous diversion from wind and solar development. They warned the plant would saddle taxpayers with the expense while delaying cleaner alternatives. Critics say Hochul’s stance mirrors pro-nuclear policies favored by the Trump administration.

Despite the backlash, Hochul insists modern reactors are safe and essential for powering upstate’s growing tech industry. Environmental groups, however, remain firm: nuclear isn’t the clean solution New York needs.
