Spain’s summer isn’t just bringing heatwaves- smokers are facing another burn, and this one hits their wallets. From Saturday 21 June 2025, a new round of official tobacco price increases came into effect across the Spanish mainland and Balearic Islands.

While not all brands are impacted, several big names in cigarettes, rolling tobacco, pipe tobacco, and snuff now cost more at every estanco. If you haven’t restocked yet, get ready for a surprise the next time you pop into your local tobacco shop.

Which Tobacco brands have gone up?

The latest update, published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE), includes everything from everyday favourites to more niche products. For regular smokers, even a small increase adds up fast. Here’s a quick look at some of the most affected:

    • Snuff (McChrystal’s, 4g):
      • Original & Genuine, Glacier, Olde English, Sunset – 1,00 €
    • Cigarettes:
      • Sovereign Blue 20s – 6,62 €
    • Rolling Tobacco (Philip Morris, 30g):
    • Pipe Tobacco (Adalya & Blue Horse, 990g):
      • Berlin Nights, Blue I’ss, Hawaii, Love66, Sweess Boom, Mi Amor and others – 65,00 €

These are retail prices including tax, and they’re now in force at all official tobacco retailers on the mainland and in the Balearics. Canaries, Ceuta and Melilla aren’t affected—those regions have their own price structure.

Checking prices? Here’s how to stay informed

Wondering if your favourite blend just crept up in price? The Spanish government makes it easy to check:
The Comisionado para el Mercado de Tabacos keeps an up-to-date online tool where you can search the official price of any cigarette, rolling tobacco, pipe tobacco or cigar. Just visit the BOE or Comisionado website, type in the brand, and see the current rate.
This is handy if you spot a surprise price tag at the estanco or want to be sure you’re not being overcharged—especially as gas stations, bars and other non-official sellers can legally add a small markup.

Smoking in Spain: Becoming a pricey habit

While these hikes might look minor on paper, they’re part of a clear trend. The cost of smoking in Spain just keeps rising, and it’s not only down to business decisions—taxes and new policies are nudging prices up steadily, year after year.
Even the “cheaper” options like rolling or pipe tobacco aren’t safe from these regular increases. The message from the government is clear: make tobacco less accessible, especially to younger people. Meanwhile, for regular smokers, it’s all starting to feel more like a luxury than a daily ritual.

If you’re a smoker in Spain, now might be the moment to tally up what your habit is costing. With prices creeping up month after month—and no sign of the increases stopping—it’s never been more expensive to light up. Maybe it’s a good time to double-check the price of your favourite brand… or even to ask yourself if it’s time to give up for good.

Don’t get caught out next time you head to the tobacco shop. Keep an eye on official prices, watch out for unexpected surcharges, and remember: these increases aren’t going anywhere. The new summer price hike is just the latest chapter in Spain’s ongoing war on smoking.
