The Urban League of Northwest Indiana is inviting the community to participate in learning about an Energy and Construction Industry Training Program. This event will take place at the NiSource Office Collaboration Hub, located at 801 E 86th Ave in Merrillville.

Come learn about the Engage Community Partnership Initiative and its unique training program that will prepare trainees for careers and placement in energy and construction.

This opportunity to learn about the program will take place on July 2, running from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The training is slated to begin on July 28. Successful graduates will gain OSHA-30 certifications, NCCER national credentials, electrical and gas operations fundamentals, financial literacy, and more. All books, equipment, and fees will be covered for accepted trainees. Only 30 seats will be available.

Ideal candidates must meet the following requirements:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old (or will be 18 by the time of any offer letter)
  2. Math and reading comprehension up to 9th grade level (evaluated through TABE testing with 550+ score)
  3. HS diploma or GED
  4. Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  5. Agree to random drug screening throughout the training program. An initial positive result will not constitute removal from the class; but will need to be negative by the end of the course.
  6. Have valid Driver’s license, with a clean driver’s record
  7. Residents from service territories
