Tragic in Italy: 9-year-old girl from North Macedonia drowns in river

A serious tragedy has shaken the Italian municipality of San Giacomo di Pederobba, near Treviso, where yesterday at around 16:00 PM a 9-year-old girl from North Macedonia lost her life, “La Tribuna di Treviso” reported.
The girl, A. Islam, a resident of Cavasso del Tomba, was on an excursion along the Piave River with her parents, Ihmet and Naila, as well as her younger brother and sister.
According to information, she was playing on the rocks with some other children when she suddenly slipped and fell into the river. The strong current of the water pulled her and the girl disappeared before the eyes of her family and witnesses, albinfo.ch reports.
Firefighters, carabinieri and divers immediately arrived at the scene. After a long and tiring search, at around 18:30, the divers of the fire department found the girl’s body trapped among the rocks in the river.
The mayor and his deputy, deeply affected by the tragedy, expressed sincere condolences to the family and emphasized that local authorities are ready to provide any possible assistance to the family in these difficult moments.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade announced that a notification has been submitted to the Macedonian consulate in Venice regarding a tragic event that occurred on June 29.
“The Consulate is in regular communication with the family of the deceased, with the aim of completing all necessary administrative procedures for the transportation of the mortal remains to the Republic of North Macedonia,” the statement said.
