USAID concludes its historic mission after six decades of global service, while the former US ambassador to Pristina cites Kosovo as an example of its success, especially after the 1998-1999 war.

Former US Ambassador to Pristina, Jeffrey Hovenier, has reacted to the closure of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), expressing gratitude for its contribution to the rise of Kosovo after the war.

“I want to express my solidarity and gratitude to all colleagues, especially those from USAID, for everything they have done for this nation, especially in a country like Kosovo, whose people we have helped emerge from the horrors of ethnic cleansing under the regime of former Serbian fascist leader Slobodan Milosevic, and to build a functional, democratic and successful society,” he stated.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has announced that USAID has officially ceased all activities, marking a historic end for the US foreign aid agency after more than six decades of global service.

USAID has played a key role in Kosovo, and since the post-war period has invested over $1 billion in the country, funding a range of activities, including supporting the strengthening of the rule of law, good governance, and democracy, along with improving education, inclusion, and accountability, as well as Kosovo’s economic development.
