Ukrainian Documentaries Featured at 2025 DokuFest in Kosovo

This is reported on the DokuFest film festival website

Two Ukrainian films will be featured at the documentary film festival in Kosovo: “Special Operation” and “In Retrospect.” This event takes place as part of the international film festival held annually in August.

The film “Special Operation,” created by Oleksiy Radynskiy, will compete in the feature-length competition. This documentary is based on footage from surveillance cameras recorded during the occupation of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in February 2022. The film depicts the actions of Russian military forces on the Chernobyl site.

“This film is evidence: every frame testifies to a war crime, and our approach to portraying events aims to dismantle myths about the Russian army.”

The short film competition will feature “In Retrospect,” directed by Mila Zhluktenko and Daniel Asadi Faizi. This documentary explores the connection between past and present, telling the story of migrants who built a shopping center for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, as well as the tragedy that occurred there in 2016.

The film addresses important themes of memory, intergenerational connections, and the impact of historical events on the modern world. The creative duo’s previous work, “Waking Up in Silence,” received the International Jury Award for Best Short Film at Berlinale in the Generation Kplus section.

DokuFest is an international documentary and short film festival held annually in early August in the Kosovan city of Prizren. Founded in 2002, it has become Kosovo’s largest film event and an important cultural occasion in Europe.

Since 2019, DokuFest has been selecting short films for BAFTA, and since 2022, it holds the status of a festival that selects films for the European Film Academy. In 2025, the festival will take place from August 1 to 9.
