Former Director of the Kosovo Police, Reshat Maliqi, in an interview for the show “Prizma” by author Dritan Dragusha, spoke about the police-citizen relationship and the importance of communication between the parties..

Maliqi said that every police officer must understand his job and role, and that the fact that he has a gun on his belt does not make him a “superman” who can make life difficult for citizens. On the contrary, Maliqi says, the police officer is at the service of citizens.

“Every police officer must understand his job and his role. It is not because he has put on a uniform and has put a gun on his belt that he is a superman and makes life difficult for citizens, on the contrary, he is at the service of citizens,” he said, Express reports.

“The moment a police officer puts on the uniform, he must be equipped with great tolerance,” he added.

Maliqi says that if someone applies or thinks about becoming a police officer just to arrest people, then it’s better not to wear the uniform at all.

“Anyone who dreams of becoming a police officer should think before putting on the uniform that they are applying for a position where they serve the citizen. If someone wants to become a police officer to arrest someone and apply violence, it is better not to become a police officer at all,” Maliqi said, among other things.

The show airs tonight at 20:10 PM on T7.
