The US State Department’s senior official for European Affairs, Brendan Hanrahan, will begin his official visit to the region in Kosovo today.

After Kosovo, Hanrahan will also visit Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He announced this visit himself on his X profile, saying that he is coming to the region at an important time, Gazeta Express reports.

“I am heading to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Kosovo after productive talks in Dayton and Washington. It is an important anniversary and a crucial time in the Western Balkans. I look forward to strengthening ties between the United States and countries in the region,” he wrote on July 9.

His visit to Kosovo is followed by a meeting he had with President Vjosa Osmani in Washington.

After the meeting, Osmani wrote that he and the senior State Department official reaffirmed “our commitment to deepening the strategic partnership between Kosovo and the United States.”

“Kosovo is ready to advance cooperation with the US in key areas such as defense, economy, and strategic investments of mutual interest. We stand shoulder to shoulder with the US in values, vision, and action,” she said.

Today in Pristina, Hanrahan will be received in a meeting by the acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.

During his stay in Kosovo, the senior American official is also expected to meet with representatives and leaders from parliamentary parties.

LDK President Lumir Abdixhiku, when asked by KosovaPress on Thursday, confirmed the meeting, but added that due to his travel, LDK will be represented at the meeting by Vice President Hykmete Bajrami.

Also, his visit to the region comes at a time when the 30th anniversary of the Serbian genocide was marked in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
