The American Academy of Pediatrics, along with several leading medical organizations, is suing United States health agencies over what they allege are unlawful changes to vaccine guidelines that pose a risk to public safety.
The lawsuit targets Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Secretary of Health and Human Services, who revised the COVID-19 vaccine recommendations for pregnant individuals and healthy children.
Medical experts argue that the new guidance lacks scientific support and is illegal. They also claim that RFK Jr. removed vaccine experts and replaced them with people who are skeptical of vaccines.
The suit also targets leaders at the FDA and the CDC.
Pediatrician Dr. John Cox explained to 21 News that the new guidance not only complicates the ability of physicians to ensure children’s health, but also creates confusion for parents.
“Parents don’t want to be scared all the time. They want to have good information. And right now, the information coming is very confusing.” Dr. Cox said.
Meanwhile, Measles cases in the US have reached their highest level since the disease was declared eliminated 25 years ago. Medical experts are concerned that declining childhood vaccine rates may be the reason.
“You stop doing measles vaccines, or people do less of measles vaccines, and now all of a sudden, we see a big resurgence of measles. There’s one direct correlation.” Dr. Cox said. “You get back to prevention, and it can go right back to being extinct, just like it was in the past.”
The government is also recommending that thimerosal be removed from the flu vaccine.
Dr. Cox stated that the discussion surrounding this ingredient is unwarranted.
“There’s already thimerosal-free flu vaccines. There’s already been these things for years. So a lot of things that are coming out are things that we dealt with 20 years ago, 15 years ago…but now they’re bringing up these things to undermine confidence.” Cox said.
