The Montenegrin men’s cadet basketball team defeated North Macedonia yesterday (94:72) in the first of two consecutive friendly matches as part of preparations for the European B Championship, which is being held in Skopje from August 7th to 16th.
Coach Mirko Proroković’s team led throughout the match in Skopje and ultimately achieved a deserved triumph.
The home team, it is true, opened the match better – they had a 10:3, 13:7 advantage, but our team managed to turn the game around and at the end of the first quarter they reached a 27:21 lead. With Marko Popović’s points from the penalty spot, Montenegro reached a double-digit lead in the 14th minute (36:25), and after Luka Malović’s points there was a 10-point difference (49:39).
Our team continued to increase its lead, and in the 24th minute it was 62:43, and five minutes before the end it was 90:62.
The most efficient player in our team was Marko Popović with 19 points. Luka Malović scored 16, Ilija Radović 15, Ljuban Mujović nine, David Bajčeta eight, Vuk Radović seven, Aleksa Ćupić and Marko Bardić five each, Jakov Vujičić and Matija Furundžić four each, and Vasilije Marić two points.
The same rivals will play today in Skopje at 13 pm.
After the two-match match in Skopje, Montenegro will have four more tests – on July 22 and 23 in Berane, the cadets will play against Kosovo, and on July 30 and 31, they will face tests against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Montenegro will play in Group A at the European Championship B Division, where they will also play Sweden, Great Britain, Portugal and Austria. The “reds” will play their first match on August 7 against Portugal.
