Lucas Coenen put together an impressive sand performance with a 1-1 result in Finland. The Red Bull KTM factory rider even crashed in the second moto, but still got up to finish first. Meanwhile, MXGP points leader Romain Febvre couldn’t stop Coenen in either moto, but he did salvage a second to put together a 5-2 day for second overall. Febvre’s points lead has shrunk as of late and he is now only 15 points ahead of the young Belgian Lucas Coenen. The next closest rider in the points chase is Calvin Vlaandered in third, but he is 178 points adrift.
Kay De Wolf is back to his winning ways with a 1-1 at the Kimi-Ring. The current 250 World Champion faltered a couple of times, but he was first in Argentina, Sardinia, Spain and Finland, but that momentum was hurt by a 13th in the second French GP and a 10th in Great Britain. He recovered to score runner-up finishes in Spain #2, Trentino and Portugal plus thirds in Switzerland, Germany and Latvia.
Lucas Coenen (96) mastered the sands of Finland and celebrated on his way to the flag.
