Trajkovic: The EU does not have the power and authority to continue the talks, I believe that Trump will initiate negotiations on Kosovo and Bosnia

Rada Trajkovic, the head of the non-governmental organization European Movement of Serbs from Kosovo, has said that the European Union does not have the power or authority to continue Kosovo-Serbia talks and said that US President Donald Trump does not want to follow the EU’s pace and wants to take the lead himself.
For Danas, she said she believes he will “definitely” start talks between the two countries, Gazeta Express reports.
“Unfortunately, the EU does not have the strength or authority to continue negotiations. And President Trump is not in the habit of ‘chasing’ the EU anyway, but wants to take the lead and set the pace of negotiations. I believe that he will definitely start talks on both Bosnia and Kosovo,” she said.
Asked by Danas whether the incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, is losing any influence after the endless delay in the constitution of the parliament, Trajkovic said: “The fact is that Prime Minister Kurti is losing influence with part of the international community and is becoming more part of the problem than part of the solution. Of course, his ideology is an advantage for him, which makes him unwilling to compromise and not interested in truly strengthening institutions and their independence, such as, for example, the rule of law institutions that are regularly abused for ethno-nationalist purposes. This has had some success with voters – but this success is short-lived because if there are no real reforms and economic progress, shifting attention towards nationalism will prove to be an even more transparent and cynical political strategy,” she said.
Trajkovic was appointed advisor to Minister Nenad Rašić during Kurti’s government.
