It seems like younger people are more interested in wasting time holding meetings without any results and not very eager to obtain new skills. I can see why they prefer seniority and life time employment.

Not surprised as they probably saw their parents’ salary grow over time rather than their position, and in today’s economy people don’t like uncertainty. They would rather just get a slow steady, minimal increase in income rather than being subject to judgment and competition even if it means more for the winner

It’s a cycle. The last 10 years saw everyone hustling and trying to get an IT job, fighting and job hopping for promotions. Now that bubble is burst. Younger people saw how tiring it was and now just want to quite quit and pursue things outside of work. Seniority based promotions let you do that and still get a pay increase gradually.

People act like raising and taking care of your employees while giving stability is a bad thing. In the end the American system is more about office politics than actual skill anyway.
