Heatwave persists across Greece, temperatures soar above 43°C

    Heatwave conditions continued to grip much of Greece on Wednesday, with temperatures in several regions exceeding 43°C. The extreme heat is forecast to persist until Sunday, according to a latest update from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service.

    Data from the National Observatory of Athens showed that the highest temperatures were recorded in the regions of Macedonia and Thrace, Thessaly, the Peloponnese, and the eastern mainland, where values approached 42-43°C.

    Out of 551 active weather stations, 310 recorded temperatures above 37°C, while 78 stations exceeded 40°C. In five locations, the mercury climbed above 42°C. Despite the intensity of the heat, the nationwide average maximum temperature on Wednesday (36.8°C) was slightly lower than Tuesday’s (37.2°C).
