BOONVILLE, N.Y. — The Oneida County Youth Bureau bussed in over 700 children to the Boonville-Oneida County Fair.
Event Coordinator Susan Alger said that it’s important for our youth to experience what agriculture is all about.
“Agriculture is huge in our area, and we want to make sure that we keep the agriculture alive and show everybody the new technology. The new items that are pertaining to agriculture. From cows, to goats, to sheep, some pigs, our main focus is agriculture.”
Animal presentation is serious business here.
4-H Dairy Judge Cassie Menendez gave some insight as to what she’s looking for in a top competitor.
“You can really just tell with how well their animal walks, how often they’ve been practicing with them, and just how much of the work they’ve done at home,” she said.
Alder Creek resident Victoria Curry has been coming to the fair for about 20 years, mostly to watch the horses perform.
“They do their draft horse things, they do tractor pulls, truck pulls. There’s something for everybody at the Boonville Fair.”
Fair Promotor Carl Trainor says the fair has so much more to offer.
“A hundred different kinds of food, and 99 of them are terrible for you, but they taste delicious. For the young people, the rides and the games. The carnival we have is like a full-scale amusement park. We end up with a bang with 2 demolition derbies on Sunday.”
The Demolition Derby times are at 1 and 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The Boonville Oneida County Fair is an agricultural experience but there’s so much more to do and see at the fair.
