The purchasing power, measured by the ratio of the average or minimum consumer basket to the average net salary in March this year, was higher compared to February, the Ministry of Internal and External Trade announced in its analysis of purchasing power trends in Serbia for the month of March. This is the most recent month analysed.
In March, 0.99 average salaries were needed to cover the average consumer basket, compared to 1.03 in February. To cover the minimum basket in March, 0.51 of an average salary was sufficient, compared to 0.54 in February.
The average consumer basket for March amounted to 106,864.46 dinars, which is 173.39 dinars more than in February, while the minimum basket amounted to 55,527.62 dinars, an increase of 106.48 dinars from February.
In percentage terms, both March baskets were 0.2 percent higher than those in February.
As for salary data, the average gross salary in March was 148,652 dinars, while the net salary – excluding taxes and contributions – was 108,013 dinars.
To cover the average consumer basket in March, 0.99 average salaries were needed, while 0.51 of an average salary was enough to cover the minimum basket.
Looking at individual cities, Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš, and Kragujevac had purchasing power above the national average in March.
In other cities monitored statistically, the average monthly net salary covered the minimum consumer basket but was not sufficient to cover the average consumer basket.
