Former President and Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, from The Hague has criticized the European Union’s approach towards Kosovo, saying that the stance of some member states is giving Serbia space for destructive actions.
In an interview for the Rubikon show on Klan Kosova, Thaçi emphasized that the role of the United States of America in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is irreplaceable.
“Washington’s leading role in the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is irreplaceable. The European Union is still not unanimous in recognizing the state of Kosovo, it seems sleepy and late in integrating the Western Balkans, with the exception of Albania and Montenegro,” he declared.
Thaçi also criticized the five EU countries that have not yet recognized Kosovo’s independence, saying that this situation is motivating Serbia to behave in a hostile manner towards the country.
“The unwillingness of five European Union countries to recognize Kosovo seems to be encouraging Serbia to behave badly towards Kosovo,” Thaçi stressed.
He is currently in custody in The Hague, where he is facing charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity by the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor.
