The heatwave in Greece, which began on Monday, is now expected to last more than a week, as the weather service said the country faced temperatures close to 46 degrees Celsius on July 25.

The National Observatory in Athens said the highest temperature was recorded in the Messinia region, where 45.8 degrees Celsius was recorded.

In Athens, temperatures of up to 42 degrees were recorded in some parts.

Officials have again modified the hours when visitors can visit the Acropolis – the main archaeological site in Greece, for the safety of visitors and staff.

The Acropolis remains closed to visitors from noon to 17:00 PM, during the hottest hours of the day.

The Greek weather agency has modified its forecast, saying that temperatures will start to drop after July 28. Previously, the agency had predicted that temperatures would drop over the weekend.

The agency also said there will be winds from the north on Friday, increasing the risk of fires.

A fire that broke out this week destroyed over 1.130 hectares of forest land near the village of Feneos.

Meanwhile, on Friday, due to a fire near the city of Kilkis, in northern Greece, authorities evacuated a university, homes and businesses.

On Saturday, temperatures in Greece are expected to reach 44 degrees Celsius.

There are ten active fires in neighboring Albania, including one in Delvina, near the border with Greece.

Another fire in Kakavija, near the border crossing with Greece, was brought under control on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Kosovo is also facing high temperatures, and on Friday the highest temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Klina.
