WEIRTON, W.Va. — Serbian culture took center stage in Weirton as the annual Serb Fest unfolded at the Serbian Picnic Grounds. Attendees had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Serbian traditions through a variety of food, music, and activities.
Roasted lamb and chicken were among the culinary highlights, alongside kielbasa, pierogi, and pastries. A 50/50 raffle added to the festivities, offering guests a chance to win prizes.
Paul Liggett, president of the Serbian Orthodox Church of Steubenville, emphasized the importance of the event in preserving cultural traditions. “It’s been inbred in us for years, our heritage. We love our traditions, our food, the roasted lamb, the chicken, getting together with people,” said Liggett.
Liggett also expressed pride in their dual identity, stating, “We’re proud Americans, and we’re proud of our heritage.”
Serb Fest has been a staple in the community for over 70 years, and organizers are committed to continuing the celebration for years to come.
