RENO, Nev. (KOLO) – Healthy Performers NV, a statewide nonprofit, is hosting its seventh annual Northern Nevada Dance and Health Workshops Saturday-Sunday, Aug. 16-17.
Carrie Cameron, board chair and owner of Sports & Performance Physical Therapy; Dr. Luis Palacio, board member and sports medicine specialist for Renown; and Adam Cates, board member and director of community engagement for the Pioneer Center, stopped by Morning Break to talk about this collaborative effort.
Participants are invited to attend seminars on injury prevention, muscle strengthening, alignment, nutrition, Pilates and physical therapy practices. Personalized health screenings are provided to help performers of all ages.
Plus, dancers of multiple levels are also invited to attend a master dance class with ballet and Pilates specialist, Linda Hurkmans.
Workshop Schedule:
- Saturday, Aug.16 from 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Sports & Performance Physical Thereapy (100 W. Liberty St, Ste 170)
- Free personalized medical evaluation appointments that include physical therapy, injury screenings, and pre-pointe readiness assessments, if applicable
- Saturday, Aug. 16 3 p.m. at the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts (100 S. Virginia St)
- “Ballet Meets Pilates” Master Class with Linda Hurkmans, M.A.
- This open level class will combine ballet technique with Pilates exercises to help dancers improve their alignment, turnout and physical strength.
- This workshop is being presented in partnership with the Pioneer Center’s annual Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival.
- Sunday, Aug. 17 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Sports & Performance Physical Therapy (100 W. Liberty St, Ste 170)
- Five seminars with topics that include alignment, injury prevention, nutrition, movement and more.
- Conducted by medical professionals with a background in working specifically with performing artists.
- Lunch is provided.
