WATCH: The alleged sighting of the ‘big cat’ in Rochester!
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Authorities are receiving reports that a big cat was recently spotted in the Town of Greece.
Local residents may remember the footage that went viral on the internet of what looked like a big cat walking through a Rochester neighborhood. Greece residents this week have been reporting seeing a mountain lion in the town.
The Greece Police Department said these sightings were reported to be in the Northbridge Drive area. Unlike the previous sighting, no footage or pictures were found.
News 8 reached out to the DEC. They said they learned of a photo purported to show the feces of a large cat, but further investigation of these sightings determined the information to be inconclusive.
As for the sighting in Rochester? The DEC also said they could not substantiate that sighting based on the available evidence.
Greece police and the DEC are reminding anyone who encounters large animals to keep their distance, slowly back away from them, and call 911.
