HOLLAND TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — American flags waving, utility trucks lined the road outside North Holland Reformed Church Thursday ahead of the funeral of a Consumers Energy worker killed in a car crash.

In his online obituary, Jeff Streur, 43, was recalled as a “friendly soul” with a “contagious laugh, a trademark smile and a big heart.” He loved nature, hunting, hiking, boating and his work at Consumers. He leaves behind a wife and children.

Victim of deadly crash was driving Consumers Energy truck, deputies say

Consumers confirmed that one of its workers was killed in a crash north of Zeeland on July 25 while driving a company truck.

“Our hearts are with our coworker’s family and loved ones, and we are providing resources to support our fellow coworkers who have known and worked with him,” Consumers said in a statement released earlier this week. “We encourage the public to be safe while traveling and to keep this person and his family in their thoughts.”

Memorial contributions in Streur’s honor may be made to Hunt to Heal or Outdoor Michigan Wishmakers.

Correction: A previous version of this report listed Jeff Streur’s first name as Jay. We regret the error, which has been fixed.
