
Last month ranked as the second-hottest July since 2010 in northern and central Greece, according to data from meteo.gr and the National Observatory of Athens.
Based on readings from 53 meteorological stations operating continuously since 2010, maximum daily temperatures across the country were above seasonal norms, compared to the 2010–2019 average. The month was marked by persistently high temperatures, including a prolonged heatwave from July 14 to 28.
Beyond northern and central Greece, July 2025 was the third-hottest on record for Thessaly, the Peloponnese, the Aegean, and the Dodecanese. It was the fourth-hottest July in Crete and the fifth-hottest in western Greece and the Ionian Islands.
In Athens, the average maximum temperature for the month was 2.1°C above normal, with 25 of the 31 days exceeding typical seasonal values.
In Thessaloniki, temperatures were above average on 24 days, with a monthly deviation of +1.3°C.
