North Macedonia marks August 2, the day of the Ilinden Uprising

With a series of events and manifestations, North Macedonia today marks the 122nd anniversary of the Ilinden Uprising and the Republic of Kruševo and the 80th anniversary of the first session of the KACKM. The central manifestation to mark Ilinden – Republic Day will be held in Kruševo, Gumenja and in the area of Mečkin Kamen (Bear’s Stone), where President Siljanovska and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski will deliver speeches, and they will also lay wreaths at the grave of Nikola Karev.
“Under the patronage of President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, on August 2, the central celebration of the Republic Day will be held at the Bear Stone “Meckin Kamen” in Krusevo. The Ilinden celebration will begin with the laying of fresh flowers at the grave of Nikola Karev, then at the monument in the “Sliva” locality, and will continue with a memorial service at the “St. Nicholas” church. Siljanovska-Davkova will also lay flowers at “Meckin Kamen”, where she will also deliver her speech,” the Presidency’s announcement states.
The government, on the other hand, also informed that Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski will participate in the celebration and will lay flowers at several locations. After the official part of the laying of fresh flowers is over, the Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, will give a statement to the media.
On the occasion of this day, the Assembly also announced that the Speaker of the Assembly Afrim Gashi, the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Vesna Bendevska, together with a parliamentary delegation consisting of: Brane Petrushevski, Nikola Konjanovski, Daniela Nikolova and Daniel Stojchevski, will mark the 81st anniversary of the First Meeting of the KACKM, at the KACKM Memorial Center in Pelinca:
A state delegation, led by the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of North Macedonia, Vesna Bendevska, will mark August 2 – Ilinden, at the Prohor Pčinski Monastery.
The Assembly delegation, led by Deputy Speaker Antonio Milososki, composed of: Beti Stamenkoska-Trajkoska, Slavjanka Petrovska, Boban Karapejovski and Malisa Stankovic, will lay fresh flowers at several memorials in Skopje.
The beginning of the Ilinden Uprising was announced by the bells in Kruševo at midnight opposite Ilinden in 1903. About 800 insurgents liberated the city, and two days later Nikola Karev proclaimed the Republic of Kruševo and became its president. The Free Republic lasted ten days.
