An official meeting took place on Thursday at the city hall of Santorini to discuss the island’s participation in the upcoming World Island Expo Yeosu 2026 in South Korea. The delegation from the city of Yeosu, led by Deputy Mayor Choi Junggi, met with Santorini’s municipal authority, including Mayor Nikos Zorzos, to formalize the partnership.

At the core of the meeting was the signing of a letter of intent for Santorini‘s involvement in the international expo. This signals a commitment to fostering a new partnership between the two island regions. The expo, which will be held from September to November 2026, is an international event focused on islands, sustainability, culture, and innovation.

This initiative is a continuation of Santorini’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the Korean market. The municipality recently participated in the Seoul International Tourism Fair in June 2025 and is working closely with the Greek Embassy in Korea to launch a direct Seoul-Athens flight.

Participating in the Yeosu World Island Expo 2026 offers a unique opportunity to promote Santorini as a globally recognized destination, highlighting its culture, local traditions, and commitment to sustainable tourism.

Beyond tourism, the goal is to establish long-term cultural and institutional cooperation between the two regions. The Municipality of Santorini is strategically investing in international partnerships to solidify the island’s global standing.
