The Toy Story franchise hasn’t reached its end just yet, as news of Toy Story 5 earlier this year was met with plenty of excitement, questions and anticipation. Toy Story 5, which premieres on June 19, 2026, will feature the return of Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear, and several other noteworthy names reprising their beloved characters.
But what would a fifth Toy Story movie be without the newest addition to the group? Forky, played by Tony Hale, recently revealed that his character will be back for the new release after debuting in Toy Story 4.
After Emerging as a New Main Character, Forky Will Return for ‘Toy Story 5’
Forky, the spork created by Bonnie in Toy Story 4, quickly emerged as a central storyline in the movie while battling to understand the fact that he was, indeed, a toy of sorts.
During a recent interview with The Playlist, Hale revealed that Forky is back for Toy Story 5.
“I recorded it a month ago,” Hale said. “It’s going to be really special.”
The character’s return can’t be considered too surprising, as it would make for a bit of a head-scratcher if he had such a prominent role as a member of the toy group and one movie later was simply a no-show. Regardless, fans should be excited about the news of Hale’s character returning.
‘Toy Story 5’ Set to Feature a More Modern ‘Villain’
While it’ll be seven years since the last addition to the Toy Story franchise when the new movie hits theaters, the creators apparently opted to give some of the toys a more modern-day update.
This includes Toy Story 5’s problem toy, as Discussing Film previously revealed, which will be a kid’s tablet, LilyPad. Fans were even treated to a first look at the new character.
While the stars of Toy Story 5 have been careful not to give much away in the form of spoilers, it’ll be enjoyable to see the film’s iconic characters go toe-to-toe with some of the toys kids also enjoy in the modern day.
