DUI: “Serbian World” is taking over the banking sector in Macedonia, with the help of government structures

The Democratic Union for Integration expresses deep concern about the acceleration of the penetration of the “Serbian World” in North Macedonia, which, after Telekom Srpska, is also strongly entering the banking sector through “Alta Bank”. This is not an ordinary financial investment, but a structured political and economic operation by Belgrade to secure strategic control over key institutions in the country, with the active involvement of government partners, including VLEN.
This political entity, citing sources from the National Bank, announces that the management of “Alta Bank” in Macedonia is expected to be taken by the former member of the VMRO-DPMNE Presidency and former deputy governor, Maja Kadievska Vojnović, a close associate of the Prime Minister in the field of economy. Her appointment comes as a result of Mickoski’s personal lobbying of Aleksandar Vučić, directly connecting the bank with the political structures of Serbia.
DUI reports that, according to internal sources, one of the reasons for Trajko Slavevski’s appointment as governor was his promise to eliminate any obstacles to the entry of “Alta Bank” into the local market, despite warnings from professionals at the National Bank about the risks this poses to the country’s financial reputation in the eyes of European authorities.
“This intervention is part of the same strategy that DUI has previously denounced: prioritizing ties with Belgrade and the eastern axis, visits by figures with pro-Russian positions, such as Milorad Dodik, promoting Corridor 10 instead of Corridor 8, involving Serbian religious figures in state activities, and donations of Serbian origin in the country. Now, with the capture of the banking sector, “Serbian World” will have the opportunity to finance businesses close to the government, introducing them into even larger corruption schemes and making them dependent on Belgrade’s interests,” the DUI’s response states.
This party assesses that the institutions that should protect national security are being silent or have become part of this process. “The Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, which should have warned about the dangers, have turned into inert or politically controlled structures. The president and her cabinet, instead of protecting the state interest, are minimizing or spreading fake news to mask the true nature of this operation.”
DUI reaffirms that North Macedonia cannot allow the country’s strategic sectors to become the property of the “Serbian World” and its destabilizing interests. “Our financial integrity and Euro-Atlantic orientation are non-negotiable. Silence towards this agenda is complicity, and citizens will hold accountable those who are selling the country’s future for narrow political and financial interests,” the DUI response states.
